How to get to Morskie Oko from Camp Harenda Zakopane?

Most guests travel to Morskie Oko in their own vehicle — by car, van, motorhome, minibus, motorcycle or with a caravan — after reserving a TPN parking space in advance. You can also travel by city bus, private minibus or the TPN e-bus service.

Driving from Camp Harenda to Morskie Oko

Travelling to Morskie Oko in your own vehicle — by car, motorcycle, motorhome, camper van or with a caravan? From Camp Harenda Zakopane, drive to the Tatra National Park (TPN) parking area at Palenica Białczańska or Łysa Polana. A parking space must be reserved online in advance; this is the starting point for the walk to Morskie Oko.

Step 1. Reserve your TPN parking space

If you are travelling from Camp Harenda to Morskie Oko in your own vehicle — by car, van, motorhome, minibus, motorcycle or with a caravan — you must reserve a space in the official Tatra National Park (TPN) parking area at Palenica Białczańska or Łysa Polana in advance. Parking can only be booked online through the official TPN system. You can buy your parking e-ticket here: tpn.gov.pl/zwiedzaj/e-bilety. After selecting “KUP BILET”, choose your date, vehicle category and number of parking days. During the booking process, you can also make a voluntary contribution to support Tatra National Park. Every additional contribution helps protect the Tatra’s nature, maintain trails and infrastructure, and support the work of the National Park.

Depending on the options available in the booking system, you may also be able to add your TPN entry ticket to the same reservation. Then enter your vehicle registration number, check all details and complete the payment. Make sure the registration number is correct: a ticket with an incorrect or missing registration number will not be accepted.

In summer and during long weekends, parking spaces often sell out well in advance, so book as early as possible. For larger vehicles, such as minibuses and motorhomes between 5 and 8 metres long, select the appropriate ticket category. Vehicles longer than 8 metres are not permitted to use these car parks.

Step 2. Drive from Camp Harenda to the TPN parking area

From Camp Harenda Zakopane, drive first towards Poronin, then continue via Bukowina Tatrzańska towards the border crossing at Łysa Polana. Follow the road signs for “Morskie Oko”, “Palenica Białczańska” or “Łysa Polana”. For navigation, enter one of these destinations:

• Parking TPN Palenica Białczańska
• Łysa Polana parking

When you arrive, show the parking staff your booking confirmation, either on your phone or as a printout. Your entry is checked using your vehicle registration number.

A valid e-ticket guarantees a parking space within the Morskie Oko parking area, but not a specific parking sector. Your final parking location depends on your arrival time and the staff’s instructions: you may be directed to Palenica Białczańska, a roadside parking area or Łysa Polana. Palenica Białczańska is closest to the trailhead; Łysa Polana is the furthest away.

Step 3. Start of the trail to Morskie Oko and TPN entry ticket

The asphalt road to Morskie Oko begins at the car park in Palenica Białczańska. After parking, simply follow the trail signs and other hikers. You need a separate entry ticket for Tatra National Park (TPN). You can buy it:

• Online in advance: tpn.gov.pl/wstep-do-parku
• On site: at the TPN ticket office at the trail entrance in Palenica Białczańska, right next to the car park.

BY BUS, MINIBUS OR TPN E-BUS

Getting from Camp Harenda to Morskie Oko by public transport

Not travelling in your own vehicle? You can still get from Camp Harenda Zakopane to Morskie Oko easily by public transport. First, travel from the campsite to the centre of Zakopane by city bus, private minibus, taxi, Uber or Bolt. From there, you have three options:

• Private minibus to Palenica Białczańska — the start of the walking route to Morskie Oko.
• TPN e-bus from Chałubińskiego Rondo to Polana Włosienica — from there, only a short walk of about 1.7 km remains to Morskie Oko.
• Accessible TPN e-bus directly to the mountain hut at Morskie Oko — available exclusively to persons with disabilities and their carers.

The detailed instructions for each option are provided below.

Step 1. From Camp Harenda to central Zakopane

Choose the most convenient way to reach Zakopane

From Camp Harenda Zakopane, you can easily reach central Zakopane by city bus or private minibus. Throughout the year, city buses 14 and 17, as well as private minibuses heading towards the town centre, operate near the campsite. Both stops are around 150 metres from the entrance to Camp Harenda: “Ustup Lewiatan”, in front of the Lewiatan supermarket, and the stop on the opposite side of the road, in front of the pharmacy.

Where should you board?

The simplest option is city bus no. 14. You can board it either by the Lewiatan store or in front of the pharmacy — both services travel to the centre of Zakopane and the Main Bus Station. City bus no. 14 runs between Harenda and the Main Bus Station area on different route variants. One is shorter and faster, while the other takes longer and makes more stops along the way. Whichever no. 14 bus you catch near Camp Harenda — whether at the stop by the Lewiatan store or the pharmacy — you will reach central Zakopane; the only difference is the journey time.

City bus no. 17 also goes to the centre of Zakopane and the Main Bus Station, but choosing the correct direction is important. If you want to travel towards the centre, board no. 17 at the stop in front of the pharmacy, in the direction of the Main Bus Station. From the stop by the Lewiatan store, no. 17 continues on its circular route; for this guide, the safest option is therefore to use the pharmacy stop. Before boarding, check the destination shown on the display or ask the driver whether the bus is going towards the Main Bus Station.

You can find the current timetables, departure times and route details for buses 14 and 17 on the official City of Zakopane website: zakopane.pl/komunikacjamiejska/rozklady-jazdy. The adult fare is approximately PLN 6 (price checked in June 2026); fares and timetables may change.

Private minibuses also travel towards the centre of Zakopane, but they usually do not follow a fixed timetable and may depart depending on passenger demand. They most often stop at the bus stop next to the Lewiatan store, around 150 metres from the campsite entrance, or near the Camp Harenda gate, right by the bridge. Before boarding, ask the driver whether the minibus goes to the Main Bus Station. Pay the driver directly, usually in cash. The approximate fare was PLN 6 in June 2026; the current fare is normally displayed in the minibus window or on a notice attached to the vehicle.

Where should you get off?

If in Step 2 below, you plan to continue to Palenica Białczańska by private minibus (Option A), get off at the “Dworzec” stop. Bus no. 14 stops at stand no. 16 at the bus station, while bus no. 17 stops at stand no. 17. A stand is simply the numbered bay at the bus station where the bus stops. After leaving the city bus or minibus, walk towards the numbered stands and look for private minibuses displaying signs such as “Morskie Oko”, “Palenica Białczańska” or “Łysa Polana”.

If, in Step 2 below, you plan to use the TPN e-bus to Morskie Oko (Option B), take bus no. 14 and get off at the “Chałubińskiego Rondo” stop. From there, walk to the TPN Nature Education Centre at ul. Chałubińskiego 42, next to the GreenWay charging station, where the e-buses to Morskie Oko depart.

In normal traffic conditions, without congestion, bus no. 14 takes around 15 minutes from the “Ustup Lewiatan” stop to both “Dworzec” and “Chałubińskiego Rondo”. Bus no. 17 takes around 11 minutes from “Ustup Lewiatan” to “Dworzec”.

By taxi, Uber or Bolt

You can also take a taxi, Uber or Bolt from Camp Harenda to Zakopane Main Bus Station. Fares usually start at around 30 PLN (indicative price as of June 2026). The final price depends on the time of day, traffic and current demand.

Step 2. From central Zakopane to Palenica Białczańska or Polana Włosienica

Option A – private minibus from the centre of Zakopane to Palenica Białczańska

Get off the city bus at the “Dworzec” stop: bus no. 14 stops at stand no. 16, and bus no. 17 at stand no. 17. Both stands are at Zakopane Main Bus Station, the main departure point for private minibuses travelling towards Morskie Oko, Palenica Białczańska and Łysa Polana.

Look for minibuses displaying signs such as “Morskie Oko”, “Palenica Białczańska” or “Łysa Polana”. They usually wait at the first stands near the station exit and leave once enough passengers have boarded.

Buy your ticket directly from the driver. The current fare is normally displayed in the minibus window or on a notice beside the vehicle. The journey to Palenica Białczańska usually costs around PLN 15–20 per person (price checked in June 2026); the exact fare depends on the operator and season.

The journey to Palenica Białczańska normally takes around 40–60 minutes, depending on traffic. In high season, minibuses run very frequently; outside the main season, they operate less often. Arrive at the bus station a little earlier and ask the driver about the last return service to Zakopane.

Option B – TPN e‑bus from the centre of Zakopane to Polana Włosienica, Palenica Białczańska or Morskie Oko

An accessible TPN e-bus service runs directly from Zakopane to the mountain hut at Morskie Oko for persons with disabilities and their carers.

To use the TPN e-bus, take city bus no. 14 from Camp Harenda and get off at the “Chałubińskiego Rondo” stop. From there, walk to the TPN Nature Education Centre at ul. Chałubińskiego 42, next to the GreenWay charging station. This is where the TPN e-buses depart towards Polana Włosienica, Palenica Białczańska, Łysa Polana and, on the accessible service, Morskie Oko.

Book your TPN e-bus ticket in advance by choosing the correct route and departure time. Current routes, dates and booking rules are available on the official TPN website: tpn.gov.pl/e-busy-do-morskiego-oka. The e‑bus ticket fare includes a reserved seat and a TPN entry ticket, which visitors would normally buy at the trail entrance at Palenica Białczańska, next to the car park. Always check the current ticket package and conditions on the official TPN website. Tickets can be bought online or in person at the TPN Tourist Information Point in Zakopane, ul. Chałubińskiego 44; check the current opening hours before visiting.

Important: TPN e-bus tickets are not sold by the driver. Your ticket must be booked before travelling. The fare includes a reserved seat and, in most cases, entry to Tatra National Park; always check the current ticket conditions when booking.

TPN e-buses are the National Park’s official electric transport service, environmentally friendly transport on the route to Morskie Oko. They operate on several routes between Zakopane, Palenica Białczańska, Polana Włosienica and Morskie Oko:

• Route available to all visitors: Zakopane – Polana Włosienica – Zakopane
• Route available to all visitors: Palenica Białczańska – Włosienica – Palenica Białczańska
• Route available only to persons with disabilities and their carers; this service goes directly to the mountain hut at Morskie Oko: Zakopane – Morskie Oko – Zakopane

After getting off at Polana Włosienica, approximately 1.7 km of walking remains along the asphalt road to Morskie Oko. Only the accessible e-buses for persons with disabilities and their carers travel directly to the mountain hut by the lake.

Step 3. Start of the trail to Morskie Oko and buying your TPN entry ticket

If you take the TPN e-bus to Polana Włosienica, approximately 1.7 km remains on foot along the asphalt road to Morskie Oko. Your TPN entry ticket is already included in the e-bus fare, so you do not need to buy another ticket at the trail entrance.

If you travel by private minibus to Palenica Białczańska, the asphalt road to Morskie Oko begins there. After getting off the minibus, simply follow the trail signs and other hikers.

In this case, you need a separate Tatra National Park (TPN) entry ticket. You can buy it:

• Online in advance — at tpn.gov.pl/wstep-do-parku.
• On site — at the TPN ticket office at the trail entrance in Palenica Białczańska, right next to the car park.

PRACTICAL TIPS FROM CAMP HARENDA ZAKOPANE

Before you set off for Morskie Oko

To make your trip easier, prepare everything you need before leaving Camp Harenda Zakopane for Morskie Oko:

1. Tickets and bookings – make sure you already have:
   • e‑tickets for the car park / TPN e‑bus (if you are using them) – ideally saved on your phone or printed,
   • a TPN entry ticket bought online at tpn.gov.pl/wstep-do-parku, which can save time at the trail entrance . You can also buy the ticket on site at the ticket office, but purchasing online usually means a shorter queue – unless you are travelling by TPN e-bus, as entry to the National Park is already included in your e-bus ticket.
     
2. Mobile coverage and internet – in the mountains, including on the road to Morskie Oko, mobile signal can be weak, so it is best to download all tickets (parking, e‑buses, TPN entrance) in advance at home or at Camp Harenda (we have excellent Wi‑Fi across our campsite!), so that they are available offline.
3. Weather forecast – check the weather forecast for the Morskie Oko area (for example in the IMGW app or another weather service) and plan your trip so that you avoid storms and get back before dark.
   • We highly recommend the app “Monitor Burz” (storm monitoring).
     
4. Route time – the route from Palenica Białczańska to Morskie Oko is about 8–9 km one way (usually 2–2.5 hours of walking), so the whole return trip typically takes most of the day.
5. Route details and timetables – the exact route, stops and departure times are worth checking directly before your trip, as they may be adjusted depending on the season and road conditions.
