BY CAR
Driving from Camp Harenda to Morskie Oko
If you want to know how to get to Morskie Oko by car, this is the most convenient option from Camp Harenda Zakopane.
Step 1. Booking a car park when driving from Camp Harenda to Morskie Oko
Driving from Camp Harenda to Morskie Oko by car requires you to book a space in advance at the official Tatra National Park (TPN) car park in the area of Palenica Białczańska or Łysa Polana. Booking is only available online via the Tatra National Park system – the easiest way is to buy a parking e‑ticket directly here: tpn.gov.pl/zwiedzaj/e-bilety. In the summer season and on long weekends, places can sell out well in advance, so it is better not to leave this to the last moment.
Step 2. Driving from Camp Harenda to the car park
From the campsite you drive towards Poronin, then follow the road to Bukowina Tatrzańska and the border at Łysa Polana. On the road signs look for the names “Morskie Oko”, “Palenica Białczańska” or “Łysa Polana”. In your navigation it is most convenient to enter:
- “Parking TPN Palenica Białczańska”, or
- “Łysa Polana parking”.
On arrival you show the staff your booking confirmation (on your phone or printed) – entry is based on your car licence plate – and then park according to their instructions. Having a valid parking e‑ticket for the Morskie Oko area gives you a guaranteed parking space in this area, but the exact place where you will park (Palenica Białczańska – closest to the trailhead, roadside parking, Łysa Polana – furthest from the trail) depends on the order of arrival and the instructions of the parking staff.
Step 3. Trail to Morskie Oko and entrance ticket to TPN
The asphalt road to Morskie Oko starts from the car park at Palenica Białczańska. After parking, simply follow the trail markings and other hikers.
- Entrance tickets to Tatra National Park can be purchased in advance online at: tpn.gov.pl/wstep-do-parku, or
- On site – at the TPN ticket office at the entrance to the trail at Palenica Białczańska, right next to the car park.
BY BUS / PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Getting from Camp Harenda to Morskie Oko by bus
If you prefer public transport, you can get to Morskie Oko from Camp Harenda by taking the city bus to the centre of Zakopane and then continuing by minibus or TPN e-bus.
Step 1. Getting from Camp Harenda to the centre of Zakopane
By city bus or local minibus
From Camp Harenda you can easily get to the centre of Zakopane by bus. City buses (line 14) and private minibuses towards the centre run all year round and stop at the bus stop “Ustup Lewiatan” next to the Lewiatan grocery shop, about 150 metres from the gate of our campsite.
City bus line 14 runs between Harenda and the area of the main bus station following different route variants – one is shorter and faster, the other takes longer and has more stops along the way. Whichever “14” you catch at Camp Harenda, you will always get to the centre of Zakopane; the only difference is the travel time. The current timetable of line 14 (departure times and route) can be found on the official Zakopane website: zakopane.pl/komunikacjamiejska/rozklady-jazdy. (Indicative price as of June 2026: about 6 PLN per adult.)
If in Step 2 you plan to continue by private minibus (Option A), get off at the stop “Dworzec st. 16” (platform np. 16 at the bus station). If you want to use TPN e‑buses (Option B), get off at the stop “Chałubińskiego Rondo”. The travel time from the “Ustup Lewiatan” bus stop to both “Dworzec st. 16” and “Rondo Chałubińskiego” is usually around 15 minutes in normal traffic conditions, without congestion.
By private minibus from Harenda
Private minibuses from the bus stop at Harenda run depending on demand and often do not have a fixed timetable. They usually stop at the bus stop next to the Lewiatan shop, about 150 metres from the gate of our campsite, or at the stop right at the Camp Harenda gate – just by the bridge. You pay the driver directly, usually in cash. (Indicative price as of June 2026: about 6 PLN – the current fare is always displayed on the bus / on a board on the vehicle.)
By taxi / Uber
You can also order a taxi from Camp Harenda to the bus station in Zakopane, or call an Uber – the fare usually starts from around 30 PLN (indicative price as of June 2026).
Step 2. Bus from Zakopane to Palenica Białczańska
Option A – private minibus from the centre of Zakopane to Palenica Białczańska
The most convenient is to get off city bus line 14 in the area of the Main Bus Station / stop “Rejon Dworca” – this is the main departure point for minibuses towards “Morskie Oko / Palenica Białczańska / Łysa Polana”.
Look for minibuses with signs “Morskie Oko”, “Palenica Białczańska” or “Łysa Polana” – they usually park at the first bays in the direction of exiting the station and depart when they have enough passengers. Tickets are bought from the driver, prices are displayed on the bus window or on a board next to the vehicle. In recent years the fare to Palenica Białczańska has been around several–teen PLN per person (the exact price depends on the operator and season). The journey to Palenica Białczańska usually takes about 40–60 minutes depending on traffic.
In high season minibuses depart almost one after another; off‑season they run less frequently, so it is best to come to the station a bit earlier and ask the drivers straight away about the time of the last return service.
Option B – TPN e‑bus from the centre of Zakopane to Włosienica / Palenica Białczańska / Morskie Oko
For this option, get off city bus line 14 at “Rondo Chałubińskiego” – TPN e‑buses towards “Morskie Oko / Palenica Białczańska / Łysa Polana” depart from the stop next to the TPN Nature Education Centre, ul. Chałubińskiego 42a, next to the GreenWay charging station.
Tatra National Park has launched its own transport – e‑buses and selected minibus services with tickets purchased in advance:
- only via the website: tpn.gov.pl/e-busy-do-morskiego-oka
- or in person at the TPN Tourist Information Point in Zakopane (ul. Chałubińskiego 44 – current opening hours are shown on the TPN website).
- IMPORTANT! You cannot buy a TPN e‑bus ticket from the driver – you must book it in advance.
- The e‑bus ticket price includes a seat and a TPN entrance ticket, which is normally purchased at the trail entrance at Palenica Białczańska, right next to the car park (the exact package – including whether the entrance ticket is included – and the current rules are always available on the TPN website: tpn.gov.pl/e-busy-do-morskiego-oka).
TPN e‑buses are electric buses run by Tatra National Park as the official, eco‑friendly transport on the road to Morskie Oko. They operate on several routes between Zakopane, Palenica Białczańska, Polana Włosienica and Morskie Oko:
- Route: Zakopane – Włosienica – Zakopane (for all visitors),
- Route: Palenica Białczańska – Włosienica – Palenica Białczańska (for all visitors),
- Route: Zakopane – Morskie Oko – Zakopane (only for persons with disabilities and their carers – transport directly to the mountain hut at Morskie Oko).
Thanks to the e‑buses you can shorten the walking section (get off at Polana Włosienica, closer to Morskie Oko) or – in the case of persons with disabilities – get directly to the lake.
Step 3. Trail to Morskie Oko and entrance ticket to TPN
From the car park at Palenica Białczańska the asphalt road to Morskie Oko begins. After getting off the bus, simply follow the trail signs and other hikers.
- Entrance tickets to Tatra National Park can be bought on site – at the TPN ticket office at the entrance to the trail at Palenica Białczańska, right next to the car park,
- or in advance online at: tpn.gov.pl/wstep-do-parku.
PRO TIP from Camp Harenda Zakopane
To make your trip easier, prepare everything you need before leaving Camp Harenda Zakopane for Morskie Oko:
- Tickets and bookings – make sure you already have:
- e‑tickets for the car park / TPN e‑bus (if you are using them) – ideally saved on your phone or printed,
- a TPN entrance ticket bought online at tpn.gov.pl/wstep-do-parku – this will shorten the queue at the trail entrance (you can also buy the ticket on the spot at the ticket office, but online purchase usually means a shorter queue).
- Mobile coverage and internet – in the mountains, including on the road to Morskie Oko, mobile signal can be weak, so it is best to download all tickets (parking, e‑buses, TPN entrance) in advance at home or at Camp Harenda (we have excellent Wi‑Fi across our campsite!), so that they are available offline.
- Weather forecast – check the weather forecast for the Morskie Oko area (for example in the IMGW app or another weather service) and plan your trip so that you avoid storms and get back before dark.
- Route time – the route from Palenica Białczańska to Morskie Oko is about 8–9 km one way (usually 2–2.5 hours of walking), so the whole return trip typically takes most of the day.
- Route details and timetables – the exact route, stops and departure times are worth checking directly before your trip, as they may be adjusted depending on the season and road conditions.
- More information – we recommend reading the information on the TPN website: https://tpn.gov.pl/tatra-national-park.
